PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control device for an engine enabling more stable start of the engine under any situation. SOLUTION: An electric control device 40 determines that the engine 10 is under a start disabled condition due to over rich of air fuel ratio when the engine 10 does not start even if necessary fuel injection is performed for a fixed period of time during cranking of the engine 10. When the start disabled condition of the engine 10 is determined, fuel cut control and control fully opening a throttle valve 12a are performed in parallel for a predetermined period to avoid over rich condition during cranking.
