In the prodn. of electrodes for galvanic cells, the binder particles on the surface separate as a hydrophobic film by immersing multi-layer electrodes in solvents and then evaporating the solvents; the hydrophobicity varies continuously over the cross-section of the electrodes. In fuel elements and hybrid systems. The hydrophobic layer is not easily removed from the surface of the electrode by the electrolyte. Large amts. of binder are not needed.
