PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a HID lamp diffusing light radiated from a lamp and having ability to prevent transmission of an ultraviolet with a wave length of 400 nm or less. SOLUTION: In this HID lamp, an arc tube 3 is housed in a translucent outer tube bulb 1, and a mercury halide or a metal halide other than mercury halide and a noble gas are enclosed in the arc tube 3. An ultraviolet transmission preventing layer 2 to diffuse light and to prevent light having a wavelength of 400 nm or less from transmitting is provided on the inner surface of the outer tube bulb 1. The ultraviolet transmission preventing layer 2 contains at least one kind of antimony trioxide, aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, zinc oxide, and cerium oxide, in addition to titanium oxide. The film thickness of the ultraviolet preventing layer 2 is preferably 0.3μm - 0.5 mm. In addition, the particle diameter of the titanium oxide contained in the ultraviolet transmission preventing layer 2 is preferably 30 nm - 1μm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
