<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of a frame memory in a display device which can conduct multi-gradation display by a digital driving system and to suppress generation of heat in the display device caused by a driving current. <P>SOLUTION: In a conventional organic EL display of the digital driving system, one field period is divided into a scanning period and a light emitting period. In this invention, such a division is not made and video data from data lines 60 are written into pixels (51) for every line and comparison is made between ramp voltages RMP(n-1), RMP(n) and RMP(n+1) being generated for every line and the video data voltages and light emitting display is conducted based on the comparison result. Thus, multi-gradation display by the digital driving system is made possible and a display device that requires no frame memory can be provided.
