<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of a frame memory in a display device which can conduct multi-gradation display by a digital driving system and to suppress generation of heat in the display device caused by a driving current. <P>SOLUTION: In a conventional organic EL display of the digital driving system, one field period is divided into a scanning period and a light emitting period. In this invention, such a division is not made and video data from data lines 60 are written into pixels (51) for every line and comparison is made between ramp voltages RMP(n-1), RMP(n) and RMP(n+1) being generated for every line and the video data voltages and light emitting display is conducted based on the comparison result. Thus, multi-gradation display by the digital driving system is made possible and a display device that requires no frame memory can be provided. Moreover, the current to be supplied to organic EL elements (50) is reduced, heat generation of the display device is suppressed and the reliability is improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
