PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal plane shutter for a camera equipped with a locking release means, which does not cause malfunction resulting from the adhesion of dust. SOLUTION: A front blade locking member 15 and a rear blade locking member 16 are energized to rotate counterclockwise by respective springs not shown in the figure, and a front blade driving member 11 and a rear blade driving member 12 are locked in a set state by locking parts 15a and 16a. In electromagnetic plungers 17 and 18, when a current is successively applied to their solenoids in photographing, their needles 17a and 18a are made to straight advance against the energizing force of the springs to push the parts to be pressed 15b and 16b of the front blade locking member 15 and the rear blade locking member 16 and to release the above-mentioned locking, then a front blade and a rear blade are successively made to travel by the driving members 11 and 12.
