PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head in which resistance properties to external magnetic field can be improved without causing a problem on production. SOLUTION: This magnetic head has a reproducing head including a reproducing element and two layered shields holding the reproducing element between them, and a recording head including a main magnetic pole, a return yoke, and a excitation coil, in at least either of the shield and the return yoke, the area of a bottom plane is 1.2 times or more of the area of an upper plane.
