PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical key system having novel security of extremely high level without needing to store the spectral characteristics of a multilayered thin film used as a key, as digital data on the key recognition device side in the key system using the optical multilayered thin film, thereby completely preventing duplication and illegal unlocking of the key by a third person and even by a manufacturer of the key system and sufficiently preventing the occurrence of erroneous determination due to a temperature change or the like. SOLUTION: The optical key system is provided with the key 1 having an identifier 5 comprising the multilayered thin film with peculiar spectro characteristics; and the key recognition device 2 having a reference member 7 formed of a multilayered thin film having the same spectro characteristics as the identifier 5, a light source 8 emitting light to irradiate the identifier 5 and reference member 7, and a determining means for detecting identification light transmitted through or reflected by the identifier 5 and reference light transmitted through or reflected by the reference member and determining identity between the spectro characteristics of the identifier 5 and the spectro characteristics of the reference member 7 to emit a determination signal.
