PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device to enable overlapping of two housings in which a sound emission port of a speaker constraining its design is not apparently conspicuous, and a user can easily hear the sound outputted from the speaker. SOLUTION: The portable electronic device is provided with a first housing 33 including a projection 36 at one end, and a second housing 34 including a recessed notch 40 at one end, wherein the projection 36 is inserted into the notch 40, and the notch 40 and the projection 36 are rotationally coupled with each other to open and close the two housings 33, 34. The projection 36 is provided with a sound emission surface 50 forming the sound emission port 47 of a speaker 58. At least a part of the sound emission surface 50 is exposed, when the two housings 33, 34 are opened, to the counter surface of the second housing 34 to the first housing 33. Moreover, when the two housings 33, 34 are closed, the sound emission surface 50 is exposed diagonally to the rear surface in the opposite side of the counter surface of the second housing 34.
