PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of an edge of a boundary part in the main scanning direction of a solid part when the solid part is formed. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is equipped with a longitudinal liquid drop delivering head in which a plurality of nozzles are arranged, a carrying means for sucking a recording medium by electrostatic sucking and carrying it, and a controlling means for controlling the driving timing of the nozzle. When the solid part consisting of a region with an approximate density or a gradation region accompanying a change in density is formed in the recording medium, the controlling means drives a plurality of adjoining nozzles at an approximate same driving timing corresponding to the central region excluding the boundary region consisting of the end part in the main scanning direction which is the direction intersecting approximately at right angles to the paper delivering direction of the solid part and the neighborhood of the end part, and driving the nozzles corresponding to the boundary region in the main scanning direction of the solid part by a different timing different from the approximately same driving timing.
