<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of determining the optimum power, without being affected by variations in the writing and reading characteristics of the pickups in an optical disk recording device having two or more pickups. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical recording device having two or more pickups, with each pickup makes test writing deciding the optimum power for each by test writing, the test data thus written are read over the whole test writing area by using only one pickup assigned, in advance, from among the pickups to calculate the β value. In this configuration, data written by each pickup have different β values due to the variations in the read circuits, resulting in an uneven disk surface is avoided, and the read characteristics can be prevented from degrading. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
