<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coordinate input device and method for identifying the status of a pointer to be used for pointing coordinates, and for detecting coordinate positions pointed by the pointer according to the status of the pointer. <P>SOLUTION: This coordinate input device and method is provided to detect position coordinates pointed by a pointer on a coordinate input screen in order to generate coordinate information. Whether or not the pointer used for pointing coordinates is put in a down-status is decided based on information from the pointer, and whether or not coordinates have been pointed is decided based on an optical signal shield by the pointer in the failed status, and when it is decided that the coordinates have been pointed, the pointed coordinate positions are detected based on the optical signal shielded by the pointer (172). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
