The connection between a shaft and a functional component comprises a washer (4) which fits into a peripheral groove in the shaft to hold the component in place. The washer has a central aperture (5) which is surrounded by two arms (10), forming a horseshoe shape, which are themselves surrounded by a slot in the shape of an inverted horseshoe. An independent claim is included for the washer.
