PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new winding method for a magnetic tape which can contribute to improvement of yield and reliability of the magnetic tape without spoiling regular winding effect of the magnetic tape over the whole of a roll body being a preservation form. SOLUTION: This method comprises a thermal contraction process in which semi-permanent thermal contraction is caused at one side of a width direction of a magnetic tape and curvature is given to the magnetic tape, a hub winding process in which the magnetic tape is wound on an outer peripheral surface of the hub and it is made a roll body, and a regular winding process in which the magnetic tape is wound on a tape reel, while pressing the one side in the width direction where thermal contraction is caused to the flange from the roll body.
