PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backward running control device capable of enhancing the safety when a vehicle is running backward. SOLUTION: The backward running control device 1 to be installed in the vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission is equipped with a back gear sensing means to sense meshing with a back gear, a control means 5 to emit a control signal upon receiving a sensing signal from the back gear sensing means 4, and a brake holding means 6 to maintain the actuated condition of a brake 2 in conformity to the control signal fed from the control means 5.
