PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cyclone type upright vacuum cleaner for eliminating trouble due to backward exhausting. SOLUTION: The cyclone type upright vacuum cleaner 1 includes a sucking part 2 having a sucking port; and a main body part 3 extending upward from the sucking part 2. The main body part 3 includes a lower dust collecting part 4; a central main body part 5; and an upper handle part 6. A recessed part for storing a battery, the stored battery, and a cover 82 for clogging the recessed part are arranged in front of the central main body part 5. An exhaust port is arranged on the inner wall of the recessed part. Thus, the exhaust to be discharged from the exhaust port passes through a gap, which is formed between the battery stored in the recessed part and the inner wall of the recessed part, so as to be discharged in a horizontal direction from a gap 102 which is formed between edge parts 821 at both the sides of the cover 82 and edge parts 810 at both the sides of the opening of the recessed part.
