The injection times of individual cylinders (2) of the engine (1) are adjusted depending on parameters derived from the revolutions of the crank shaft. In order that fluctuations caused by eg differing production and/or assembly tolerances as a result of differing suction pipe lengths in the quantities injected through the injection valves (7) can be compensated for with great precision, the injection times are altered until the cylinder-specific crank shaft accelerations of all cylinders show the same values.
