The parcel tray for motor vehicles is fitted during assembly through an opening in a component part which accommodates the tray and is fixed in this position. To facilitate the fitting through the opening the parcel tray is collapsible and then unfolded to form an enlarged stowage space. The parcel tray (3) consists of at least two top open sections (5,7), only one (7) of which has a bottom (18). The circumferential walls (11,13,15,17) of the tray sections are dimensioned so that a smaller section can be fitted into the larger section.
