PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester obtained by a polycondensation catalyst system composed of an aluminum compound and a phosphorus compound and containing metal components other than antimony, germanium and titanium as a main metal component for catalyst and excellent in electrostatic adhesion and scarcely containing foreign matters insoluble to the polyester and resulting from aluminum which is a main metal element of the polycondensation catalyst and capable of providing a molded product having high transparency and being suitably useable for films and sheets and to provide a method for producing the polyester. SOLUTION: The polyester comprises at least aluminum element, an alkaline earth metal element, an alkali metal element and a phosphorus element in specified element amounts and has specified properties. In the method for producing the polyester containing at least an aluminum compound, an alkaline earth metal compound, the alkali metal compound and the phosphorus compound, a specific aluminum compound and a specific phosphorus compound are used.
