PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having no printing mistake and capable of ensuring compatibility in the image forming apparatus with an image printing part with a different printing type. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a first image printing part 4 and a second printing part 5 delivering an ink from an ink head, and the first image printing part and the second image printing part are arranged in a line in the paper carrying direction X, and an image and/or an inkjet image are formed on a carried paper by the first image printing part and the second image printing part. When presence or absence of an ink detecting means for detecting the presence or the absence of the ink delivered from the ink head during printing operation to a set printing number of sheets detects a condition with no ink, image forming operations by the first image printing part 4 and the second image printing part 5 are stopped and an alarming means 58 for alarming the absence of the ink is actuated.
