A modular snowmobile ski is provided with a base that has longitudinally extending retainers, as shown, slots, or longitudinally extending slidable engaging projections that will accept ribs, keels, and the like wit h complimentary retainers. Various types of center keels or ribs can be provid ed for changing the aggressiveness of the ski, that is, the amount the ski will bite into the snow. Stabilizing or tracking ribs also can be provided along the s ki edges. The base of the ski is provided with retainers that will hold side extensions in place on the ski when desired.
