<p>The road stud comprises a metal base unit 100 having a recess 110 with a number of projections 121A,121B which extend over the floor 160 of the recess and a plastic insert 250 supporting at least one reflector, the insert having a snap or press fit for engaging with the projections so as to retain the insert within the recess, wherein the insert is generally contained within the recess and is substantially rigid against compression into the recess. The top most surface of the insert preferably lies below the tops of the side walls 101 of the base with at least one retaining portion 275A,275B abutting the underside of the projections. On insertion, the retaining portion is preferably resiliently deflected past the projections, with the or each retaining portion preferably including a sloping portion that contacts the projections during insertion. The plastic insert preferably includes internal ribbing. Also claimed is a plastic insert for use in a road stud and a method of forming a road stud.</p> |
