An antenna feed structure or a method of producing an antenna or an antenna kit of parts comprises a tubular outer shield conductor 16 within which is an elongate inner conductor 18 which is insulated 17 from the shield conductor 16 and in which a conductor 16A extends in a perpendicular manner from the end of the shield conductor 16. The antenna feed structure may be formed as a unit which can be slid into a passage 12B formed in a dielectric core 12 of the antenna. The dielectric core 12 may have quadrifilar helical plated layer conductive elements 10A-D and connection points 10AR-DR formed on its surface. Perpendicular conductive extension of the shield and inner conductors 16A, 18A of the feed structure may make contact with connection points on the core surface when the feed structure is slid within the said passage 12B ready for solder connections to be formed. The shield and/or the inner feed conductors 16, 18 may be formed from a single piece of material including the perpendicular conductive extensions 16A, 18A. The shield and inner conductive extensions may extend in opposite directions within a common plane. The shield may include deformable insulating sleeve means 19 at positions corresponding to either end regions of the core passage. The deformable means 19 may provide spacing between the shield conductor and the inner surface of the passage whilst also gripping the said surface. |
