A method of removing a label 15 from an elongate backing web 14 includes the steps of feeding the backing web 14 in a first feed direction A, with the label 15 releasably adhered to the backing web 14, to feed the label 14 past a label removing device 37 whilst the label removing device 37 is in an inoperative condition, reversing the feed direction of the backing web 14 to feed the backing web 14 in a second direction B whilst the label removing device 37 is in an operative condition to feed the label 15 back past the operative label removing device 37, thus to cause the label 15 to be removed from the backing web 14. |
