The invention relates to a pattern generating method, a cutting method and a cutting device for rectangular elements (1-6) made of plate-shaped or sheet-like material (13), particularly sheet metal, during which the elements are optimally positioned, i.e. with the smallest possible amount of resulting scrap. The cutting device (10) comprises feeding means (31) for feeding the plate-shaped or sheet-like material (13), at least one displaceable cross-cutting means (16), a multitude of longitudinal cutting means (15), and a control device (32). Said control device (21) can be operated in a mode, in which scrap-optimized patterns are generated and at least the cross-cutting means (16), preferably also the longitudinal cutting means (15), can be displaced in accordance with the generated pattern, and the feeding means (31) can be correspondingly controlled. |
