The twisted cord is formed on four needles by operating the corresp. four needles of the lace mechanism to successively repeat the operations of moving the stitches of (a) the second and third needles one step to the right; (b) the fourth needle two steps to the left; (c) the first three needles one step to the right; and (c) the third needle two steps to the left and the second needle one step to the right. A simple method of producing a twisted cord is provided.
