PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information device, realizing new user-friendliness which has not been realized in a conventional technique, by making devices having different functions to fuse together. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a projector unit for irradiating a pattern for projection; an imaging means for photographing an object; a computing unit for computing the distance to the object; an instructing means for instructing the computing unit, to compute the distance to the object and to hold a result of the computation; and a control means for controlling so that the pattern for projection is irradiated on the object, in response to the instruction. That is, the object is irradiated with an illumination light for a projector as an auxiliary light in AF, to compute the distance to the object and to lock the result of the computation.
