The method involves detecting and evaluating an actual driving condition of vehicles, and activating an acknowledgement device (20) depending on the evaluating output. The device generates excitation parameters with sinusoidal temporal characteristics for generating a haptic driver response. One of the excitation parameters is determined depending on the driving condition and environmental conditions. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a method of generating a haptic driver response at a steering control of a vehicle.
