The method involves decoding coded data with a coding key, and receiving a smart card or other data medium by an authorized user, after production of a new certificate by a certification service supplier upon request of the user. The new certificate is provided on the smart card or the medium. An inaccessible pair of keys is electronically archived, and stored in the supplier. A new PIN is assigned for the new certificate.
