<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image on a recording medium in an adequate orientation without color shift in an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A detecting pattern 78 for detecting an inclination of an image is formed on a paper sheet P. A distance "a" from an end of the paper sheet P in the conveyance direction to one end of a segment 78F of the pattern 78 in the top side in the conveyance direction of the paper sheet and a distance "b" from the end of the paper sheet P to the other end (Side 2) of the segment 78F are measured by means of a measure. In an operation panel, the actual measured values may be input by means of an input button. The apparatus computes an inclination angle of the segment 78F based on the measured value of the distance "a" and the measured value of the distance "b", and a correction amount in the correction of the inclination so as to allow the segment 78F not to be inclined toward the edge of the paper sheet P.
