PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing the occurrence of image defects while securing satisfactory fixability in the case of flash-fixing a toner image transferred onto a recording medium and realizing energy saving. SOLUTION: A color image forming apparatus 10 is provided with a flash fixing unit 5 for color toner fixing and a flash fixing unit 52 for black toner fixing. After color toner images in three colors of yellow, magenta, and cyan, which are formed by image forming parts 18A to 18C, are transferred onto a recording medium 12, the flash fixing unit 50 radiates flash light to the recording medium 12 to fix the color toner images in three colors just after transfer. After a black toner image formed by an image forming part 18D is transferred onto the recording medium 12, the flash fixing unit 52 radiates flash light to the recording medium 12 to fix the black toner image just after transfer.
