The method involves storing data on a data medium e.g. CD or DVD. Original data medium is recognized by the characteristic of the data medium, where the characteristic is the reflectance of the upper surface of the data medium. The reflectance of the data medium in a reproducing device e.g. drive, is compared with a threshold value, where reproduction device is designed for reproduction of data. An independent claim is also included for a device for selection of data.
