PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is capable of forming recording folders reflecting a user's intention without a complicated operation so as to reserve photography data. SOLUTION: An imaging unit 101 and an image signal processing unit 102 photo an object and output image data. A file control unit 103 records image data outputted from the image signal processing unit 102 in a memory card 105. The file control unit 103 forms recording folders that put the image data together inside the memory card 105. When the file control unit 103 forms the recording folders, the image data outputted from the image signal processing unit 102 and recorded in the memory card 105 are controlled inside the memory card 105, correlating with the recording folders, as the representative image data indicating the contents of the recording folders.
