PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter 1 capable of setting high speed reduction ratio without increasing size of the starter. SOLUTION: This starter 1 is composed of a planetary gear reduction gear 6 for reducing rotation of a motor 3 and transmitting it to a driving shaft 5, a starter gear 7 engaging with the outer periphery of the driving shaft 5, a first reduction gear 8 for reducing rotation of the starter gear 7, and a second reduction gear 10 for reducing rotation of the first reduction gear 8 and transmitting it to a ring gear 9 of an engine. The first reduction gear 8 is rotatably supported on an intermediate shaft 29 arranged in parallel with the driving shaft 5 through a bearing 30, meshes with an outer gear 28 provided on the starter gear 7, and rotates to reduce rotation of the starter gear 7. The second reduction gear 10 is arranged on the same axis as the first reduction gear 8 and its outside diameter is set to be smaller than that of the first reduction gear 8 to reduce rotation of the first reduction gear 8 and transmit it to the ring gear 9.
