<p>1294743 Rolling GENERAL CABLE CORP 24 March 1970 [19 May 1969] 14080/70 Heading B3M An adjustable guide box, Fig. 4, which also has rolls 18, 27, 27<SP>1</SP> forming roll passes of a rolling mill, is supported on a bottom platform 44 by means of wedges 50, 52, wedge 50 abutting a wall 46 and wedge 52 being laterally movable by a screw 66 to move the guide box vertically, and the bottom platform being movable laterally with respect to the direction of rolling on a support element 78. Lateral adjustment is by sliding the bottom platform with its flanges 72, 74, Fig. 2, and a guide plate 82 to a selected position, locking the guide plate by means of screw 86, using screw 90 to effect a fine lateral adjustment and locking flanges 72, 74 on the support element 78 by means of set screws 80. The support element is fixed to the mill housing 100 by end plates 98 having holes 104 larger than fixing screws 102. This allows a limited vertical adjustment of the support element or a slight rotation about its longitudinal axis to tilt the guide box. The rolls and the guide box are cooled and lubricated with water and the rolled material is subjected to a water spray as it leaves the guide box. The guide box has an entrance funnel 25 and guide rolls 26 for the material to be rolled which is preferably hot rod 20.</p> |
