<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical compensation film that improves view angle contrast and view angle characteristics of black of a liquid crystal display device, and a polarizing plate using the film and to provide a liquid crystal display device that is equipped with either of them and has improved view angle contrast and view angle characteristics of black. <P>SOLUTION: The optical cellulose acylate film is a cellulose acylate film obtained by replacing hydroxy groups of a glucose unit constituting cellulose with acyl groups, has substitution degrees of hydroxy groups with acyl groups satisfying a specific relation when the substitution degrees of hydroxy groups at the 2-position, 3-position and 6-position are DS2, DS3 and DS6, respectively and retardation Re<SB>(λ)</SB>in the plane at wavelength λ and retardation Rth<SB>(λ)</SB>in the thickness direction at wavelength λ which satisfy a specific relation.
