PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a display device capable of manufacturing a display device of high reliability, and capable of improving a voltage withstanding property between cuts of a metal back of a soft flash structure. SOLUTION: The display panel of SED is formed by sealing the peripheral part of a front substrate having a fluorescent screen and a metal back and a rear substrate having a plurality of electron emission elements in vacuum atmosphere. When the metal back is formed, a CC (chemical cut) material is formed on a light shielding layer in stripe shape, aluminum is vapor deposited, and the portion of the CC material is oxidized and made in high resistance. Then, the rectangular-shaped effective areas electrically cut apart like this is conditioned by applying a potential difference thereon, and the withstanding voltage of the cut area is improved.
