PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity sensor capable of responding to a quick motion of a body to be detected. SOLUTION: The proximity sensor is equipped with a control part 10, a sensor part 20, outputting parts 21a to 21b, and a detection part 22 or the like, and connected to an operation part 30 provided on a display device 40. The control part 10 outputs a drive signal almost simultaneously showing the emission of infrared rays with a different pulse code to the outputting parts 21a to 21b having an LED or the like, and obtains the detection signal outputted from the detection part 22 composed of a PD or the like. The control part 10 determines the motion of the hand (the body to be detected) of an occupant of a vehicle based on from which output parts 21a to 21b the detection signal is outputted when obtaining the detection signal, and outputs the control signal showing the prohibition of outputting of an operation signal for the operation part 30 or the control signal showing the release of the prohibition based on the determination result.
