PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitator with which a satisfactory vertical circulation flow can be attained overall in a tank and which can exhibit a suitable agitating characteristic. SOLUTION: Openings 4 are arranged on an agitation blade 3 so as to satisfy the following condition that the ratio (i) of the gross area of openings 4 in the upper half U of the agitation blade 3 to that of the upper half U of the agitation blade 3 (the opening ratio in the upper half U of the agitation blade 3) is 45-80%, the ratio (ii) of the gross area of openings 4 in the lower half D of the agitation blade 3 to that of the lower half D of the agitation blade 3 (the opening ratio in the lower half D of the agitation blade 3) is 15-50% and the ratio (iii) of the opening ratio in the lower half D of the agitation blade 3 to that in the upper half U of the agitation blade 3 is 31-71%.
