A process for melt coating a heated metal comprises applying thereto a polyamide powder which has been made by reacting a diaryl ester of iso- and/or terephthalic acid with a substantially equivalent quantity of a primary aliphatic or araliphatic diamine in an inert solvent and in the absence of chain stoppers at a temperature such that a polyamide which has a molecular weight corresponding to a specific viscosity number of 0.5 to 1.0 is obtained. The powder may be applied to the metal surface by whirl-sintering, fluidised bed sintering or flame spraying preferably in combination with an electrostatic coating process. The examples describe the coating of iron sheets.
|
