Bv8 nucleic acids and polypeptides with mitogenic activity

Bv8 or a nucleic acid molecule encoding Bv8 can be used in the preparation of a medicament for inducing proliferation of endothelial cells, enhancing survival of endothelial cells, for treating steroidogenic tissue disorder, such as lipoid congenital adrenal hyperplasia, infertility, sexual maturation, androgen-dependent tumors, precocious puberty, McCune-Albright syndrome, adrenal-hypoplasia congenital and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. A Bv8 antagonist, such as an antibody can be used in the manufacture of medicament for inhibiting proliferation and survival of endothelial cells, or angiogenesis, for treating cancer.
