The device (3) has a sound transmission source (3A) constituted by a speaker diffusing a recorded message or a series of pulses produced by a generator. A sound wave orientation device (4A) orients the sound waves along a preferential azimuthal direction, in order to orient the sound transmission in the direction of waiting area of pedestrians according to placement of the device (3). An independent claim is also included for a traffic light comprising a sound signal producing device.
