PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide having excellent heat resistance, transparency and optical characteristics. SOLUTION: An optical film comprises the polyimide having a repeating unit represented by general formula (1) (wherein, X denotes a group containing a monocyclic or a condensed polycyclic aromatic group or a monocyclic or a polycyclic aliphatic group and having 4-30 number of constituent carbon atoms; R<SP>1</SP>s denote each a substituent; and n denotes any integer of 0-8).
