PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image fixing device capable of surely peeling a recording medium from fixing rollers and to provide an image recording apparatus having the device. SOLUTION: The image fixing device 10 includes the pair of fixing rollers 12, a gripping conveyance means 14, and a moving means 60. Prior to the passage of the recording medium P between the pair of fixing rollers 12, the moving means 60 separates a heat roller 22 and a pressure roller 24 from each other. The gripping conveyance means 14 grips the recording medium with a gripper unit 36 and passes the gripper unit 36 between the pair of fixing rollers 12. Thereafter, the moving means 60 brings the heat roller 22 and the pressure roller 24 into firm contact with each other. The pair of fixing rollers 12 convey the recording medium P while sandwiching it between them. Also, the gripper unit 36 pulls the recording medium. Since the pair of fixing rollers 12 convey the recording medium P while sandwiching it between them, images are fixed to the recording medium P, and the recording medium is surely peeled from the pair of fixing rollers 12 by the gripper unit 36.
