PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic composition, building materials for interior finish, and a method for decomposing harmful substance which enable harmful substance released from building materials or the like, particularly toluene to be efficiently decomposed. SOLUTION: By a metal cation-containing substance carried on a photocatalytic semiconductor material, separated electrons e- are moved to metal cations, thus their re-bond with holes h+ is prevented, and the exciting state of the photocatalytic semiconductor material by the irradiation of light capable of exciting is held, so that the activity as a photocatalyst is increased.
