A control system for a gas fired IC engine has an initial gas injection (10a) upstream of the throttle valve (12) and a main gas injection (10b) in the inlet manifold, or into each cylinder. The initial gas injection is sufficient for the idling setting, and can be adjustable to suit the operating conditions. The main gas injection is variable to match the torque requirements, with the injection period reduced compared to conventional designs, i.e. to take into account the torque contribution from the idling jet.
