PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio receiver in which high reception sensitivity can be attained in a relatively short time. SOLUTION: The radio receiver comprises a plurality of antennas 2A-C for receiving transmission waves from a radio tag T by radio communication, a phased array control section 200 performing the first control of the antennas 2A-C for varying the direction thereof sequentially while sustaining the directivity thereof in a predetermined direction, and an adaptive array control section 250 performing the second control of the antennas 2A-C for varying the directivity thereof so that the receiving state for the radio tag T is optimized wherein a BB section 10 controls the directivity of the antennas 2A-C by switching these two controls selectively.
