The plate forms the bottom of a resistance melting vessel and comprises ceramic nozzle elements consisting of silica-, alumina- or magnesite base material, the abutting joints of which are closed by glass from the melt which solidifies and crystallises out in the gaps between the nozzle elements. The glass penetrates the gaps only to a certain depth as a result of its viscosity and the temp. gradient coming to a halt at a temp. of 900 degrees C when solidification and crystallisation take place. The method obviates the need for special cementing materials for the nozzles.
|
