PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe projector in which generation of laser beams is directly shut off when scanning of the laser beams is not normally conducted. SOLUTION: The projector comprises a laser light source 10 which modulates and supplies beam shaped laser light in accordance with image signals; a scanning section 30 which scans the laser light beams from the laser light source 10 along at least one dimensional direction; a scanning drive section 50 which drives the scanning section 30 by first force F1; a holding section 40 which stops and holds the scanning section 50 at a prescribed position by second force F2; and a light shielding section 70 which shields the light beams from the scanning section 30 being held by the holding section 40. When the first force F1 is greater than the second force F2, the scanning drive section 50 releases the condition, in which the scanning section 30 is held by the holding section 40, and drives the scanning section 30. When the second force F2 is greater than the first force F1, the holding section 40 stops and holds the scanning section 30 at the prescribed position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
