<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and a video display method for operating extension processing to a compression video signal to be received from a device connected to a network, and for outputting it to a display device connected to its own device. <P>SOLUTION: A control part 30 of a computer 3 to which a compression video signal is requested from a video camera 1 transmits the requested compression video signal through a communication network N to the video camera 1, and a control part 10 of the video camera 1 which has received the compressed video signal operates extension processing to the compression video signal to be successively received, and converts it into a video signal for an HDTV monitor device 2, and transmits it to the HDTV monitor device 2.
