A method for the modification of a hyaluronate gel to produce a supramolecular gel (I), which in its modified condition is able to penetrate the skin barrier and resumes it's original stable structure again when given an external stimulus, comprises agitating an aqueous hyaluronate solution under a vacuum for a long time, simultaneously exposing it UV radiation and distilling an aqueous solution from the vacuum stream, is new.
